Sterling Ocean Expands Into the Chemical Sector

Sterling Ocean has announced the contracting of six 25,000 DWT chemical tankers from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea. This is a follow on investment to the four 50,000 DWT product tankers that were ordered in 2013.

Under the Sterling Ocean umbrella, Alterna has invested in a fleet of thirteen product and chemical tankers. The vessels will be used to transport petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel as well as food-grade oils and easy chemicals. Five of the vessels are currently on long-term charter to oil majors and trading companies. Sterling Ocean will take delivery of the remaining eight vessels by 2017.
